Case Study / Makiya Lesley · LuCre8z
Ownership + status: ONYX is an original LuCre8z platform conceived and developed by Makiya Lesley. The public website is a live beta preview. Creator tools, expanded playback, memberships and other platform capabilities shown as future direction are not presented as completed production features.
Project overview
Independent work often reaches audiences through disconnected links, social profiles and single-purpose platforms. ONYX brings music, film, animation, podcasts, radio and other independent media into a shared discovery environment while preserving clear pathways for each format.
For everyday users, the idea is simple: discover new creators and explore their work. Underneath that experience is a larger product system connecting content structure, profiles, discovery, rights readiness, audience registration, feedback and future commercialization.
The opportunity
Independent musicians, producers, filmmakers and media creators frequently manage separate destinations for their work, identity, audience and professional inquiries. Audiences must already know where to look, while potential partners may not have one clear place to understand a creator’s work.
ONYX explores how a single platform could make independent entertainment easier to discover without flattening music, movies and media into the same experience.
A clearer home for identity, work, credits, discovery and opportunity.
One place to find independent music, film, media, radio and new voices.
Structured pathways to understand creators, content and collaboration potential.

Experience + structure
The public beta leads with three understandable content worlds—Music, Media and Movies—then extends into radio, creator profiles, a directory, services and platform information.
The experience is designed to move from broad discovery toward useful detail without requiring visitors to understand entertainment-industry terminology first.
Enter through a familiar entertainment category.
Browse formats, featured work and emerging creators.
Understand identity, work, credits and context.
Register interest, share feedback or begin an inquiry.

Music + media operations
Developing ONYX required thinking beyond the screen. Music and media need consistent information so audiences, creators and potential partners can understand what they are seeing and hearing.
The beta establishes a foundation for organizing creator identity, artist and producer profiles, releases, tracks, artwork, credits, categories and inquiry pathways. It also identifies the operational questions a larger catalog would need to solve: who owns the content, who is credited, what has been cleared for distribution and what information must be complete before publication.
This demonstrates content-system planning and rights-aware product thinking. Automated metadata workflows, full catalog operations and large-scale content review remain future production work.

Live now vs. planned
The current release is designed to make the concept tangible, invite feedback and test how the platform is understood. Future-facing product direction is shown separately so visitors can distinguish what they can use today from what would require further design, development, partnerships and content operations.

My role
As founder and product lead, Makiya developed the platform concept, positioning, brand direction, information structure and public-facing experience. The work connects creative strategy with product thinking, content coordination and hands-on digital development.
Defined the platform premise, audiences, categories, value proposition, release stages and future capability direction.
Established the ONYX identity, voice and black-and-gold entertainment world across the platform.
Structured navigation, discovery pathways, creator context, information hierarchy and calls to action.
Designed and developed the responsive preview, then created feedback and inquiry pathways for continued iteration.
Identified early requirements around profiles, credits, content ownership, authorization and distribution clearance.
Separated functioning beta elements from future creator tools, membership and playback capabilities.
Outcome + current status
ONYX now exists as a publicly accessible beta preview with a defined brand, multi-category product structure, creator-discovery experience and clear pathways for feedback and inquiries.
The release proves the platform’s direction and provides a tangible experience for future creators, audiences and partners to evaluate. It does not represent a finished streaming service, completed content catalog or full creator-management system.
Current status: Public Beta Preview / Active Development.
